Expo 2012 Yeosu Receives Recognition from BIE General Assembly

- Yeosu Expo Organizing Committee to initiate full scale promotional activities,
domestic international, f a successful opening of the Expo -


The General Assembly of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) has officially recognized Yeosu, as the venue f the 2012 International Exposition, endsing the theme of ¡°The Living Ocean Coast.¡± The BIE, consisting of 154 member states, held its 144th session of the General Assembly in Paris, on December 2nd.

With the theme of ¡°The Living Ocean Coast: Diversity of Resources Sustainable Activities,¡± the Expo 2012 Yeosu Kea hopes to be a venue f the international community to seek tangible solutions f the proper management of present environmental challenges such as global warming the destruction of marine habitats.

Chang Seung-woo, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee f Expo 2012 Yeosu Kea, was present at the meeting remarked, ¡°The Organizing Committee is wking hard to ensure that Yeosu Expo contributes to the international community in the areas of the marine environment related technologies f common prosperity harmony of humankind.¡± Chairman Chang also expressed, ¡°With the prefect natural conditions of the host city, Yeosu is expected to become the nation¡¯s new hub f marine science tourism.¡±

The Organizing Committee recently unveiled the Master Plan of Yeosu Expo which outlined 5 maj areas including, vision goal, theme development, Expo facilities allocation, transptation accommodation plan cultural academic programs. In addition, the master plan also revealed its main concept of ¡°ECOpolis,¡± which has been coined to represent: Economy + eCology + Ocean + polis (city). The ECOpolis will be made up of 3 key exhibition facilities: ¡°Big-O,¡± ¡°Coastal Triangle,¡± ¡°Expo Digital Avenue, "which symbolize the ocean, the coast, the city, respectively.

BIE Secretary General Vicente Loscertales stated, ¡°An Expo is a way to educate the public talk about very serious concerns f humanity through an approach that can generate a lot of enthusiasm¡± he also added, ¡°Yeosu 2012 can generate this enthusiasm f the protection enhancement of ocean coasts, by explaining then by showing how oceans coasts are sources of life of inspiration f everyone.¡±

Once given the recognition, the Yeosu Expo Organizing Committee can officially begin activities f the Expo at the beginning of next year. The preparaty activities can include inviting representatives of member ries cpations to the Expo, as well as site construction, marketing promotional events.

About Expo 2012 Yeosu Yeosu city

Expo 2012 Yeosu , a 1.5 billion EUR mega project, is expected to be at a scale of 174 million m2 in total, consisting of the Exhibition area, Expo Town , leisure parks various cultural educational facilities. The international event will take place f the duration of May 12 to August 12, 2012.

The Expo 2012 Yeosu plans to adopt an international manifesto, the Yeosu Declaration, to celebrate humanity¡¯s effts to find sustainable ways to develop the ocean create an international consensus in suppt of the Expo¡¯s theme, ¡°The Living Ocean Coast.¡± The principles behind the Yeosu Declaration will materialize through the Yeosu Project, which is a program to address urgent challenges related to the ocean the environment in developing nations.

The host city, Yeosu, means ¡°beautiful waters.¡± Yeosu is a city surrounded by 317 isls is located at the heart of a 9,000 kilometer-long southern Rias coast. The southern coast connects the Yellow Sea, the South Sea , the East China Sea is the window of East Asian marine exchange.

The Bureau International des Expositions (International Exhibitions Bureau) was established by a diplomatic international Convention signed in Paris, in 1928, with two goals: First to oversee the calendar, the bidding, the selection the ganization of Wld Expositions second, to establish a x-framewk allowing ries to cooperate under the best conditions as ganizers of Expositions as participants through national pavilions.
